Grade 1/2 (formerly U8)
Grouping: Separate sessions for boys and girls in 1st and 2nd grade who generally are 6 to 7 years old as of August 31st of the fall season
Duration:
  • 8 weeks per season
  • Fall programs run from September to November and Spring programs run from April to June
League: This is a non-travel, in-town program with the exception of possible jamborees with nearby towns
Schedule:
  • One Revolution practice/skills clinics per week on assigned weekday (no “team” practices)
  • Small-sided, jamboree format games on Saturday mornings

Timing:
  • Revolution practices/skills clinics run for 1 hour on assigned weekdays
  • Small-sided, jamboree format games run for about 1 hour on Saturday mornings (four 12 minute quarters plus breaks)
Games: Format is 4V4 with 4 FT x 6 FT goals, size 3 ball, no goalies, and Revolution Academy coaches facilitating the games with help from volunteer parent assistant coaches
Practices:
  • The first half of group weekly practices/skills clinics focus on training and the second half on small-sided games
  • Revolution Academy coaches lead the group practices/skills clinics with the support of volunteer parent assistant coaches
  • Revolution Academy coaches build upon Revolution Academy weekly themes at weekly scrimmages

Equipment:
  • Hudson Youth Soccer provides all Grade 1/2 players with a T-shirt. Players must purchase shorts and socks.
  • All players must wear their Hudson Youth Soccer t-shirt to small-sided games each week and shorts can be any color or style
  • All players must bring a size 3 ball
  • All players must wear cleats or sneakers (cleats are not required but are recommended)
  • All players must wear shin guards and soccer socks (socks must be worn over shin guards)
  • All players should bring a water bottle
  • Players cannot wear earrings, hats, hooded sweatshirts, jewelry, or other metal on their person
