Required Player Equipment
To ensure a safe and successful season, all HYSA players are required to have the following equipment:
Soccer Ball

Mini Fry, Small Fry, Advanced Small Fry, Grades 1/2: Size 3

Grades 3/4, 5/6: Size 4

Grades 7/8 and High School: Size 5
Cleats

Players must wear soccer cleats.

Important: Cleats for other sports (like baseball or football) often have an extra toe cleat, which is banned in soccer for safety reasons.

Soccer cleats are versatile and can often be used for other sports like lacrosse.
Shin Guards

All players must wear soccer shin guards during practices and games.
Soccer Socks

Players must wear soccer socks that fully cover their shin guards.
Uniform

Mini Fry, Small Fry, Advanced Small Fry, Grades 1/2:
Only the HYSA-issued jersey is required for Saturday sessions and games. -
Grades 3/4, 5/6, 7/8, and High School:

Red Soccer Socks (any brand)

- No Earrings - There are no earrings allowed in the game of soccer, there is no such thing as an approved earring. This is directly from the LOTG (Laws of the Game) and enforced by US Soccer and Massachusetts Youth Soccer Association, referees, coaches or league administrators can't override this rule and there are no exceptions, even for recently pierced ears. If your player wears earrings and they can't be removed, they won't be able to participate. Please plan your piercings around the soccer season to be able to participate.

Water and Sports Drinks

All players should bring sufficient water or sports drinks to every practice and game.

Hydration is critical! Proper hydration helps players maintain focus, energy, speed, and stamina on the field.

Starting a game dehydrated can cause faster fatigue, cramping, slower reaction times, and an increased risk of heat-related illnesses.

Tip: Good hydration starts days before practices and games — encourage your player to drink water regularly, not just on game day.

Avoid caffeinated drinks, which can actually contribute to dehydration.
